We start off this new semester with a blasting 2024 Winter Rally! This year's theme was Harry Potter and it sure swept us off our brooms with their awesome new props.
Let us be honest, all of us have seen the good, ugly and astonishment that rallies bring from semester to semester and this event is no different. And while the embarrassments in going down to the notorious mosh-pits during the rallies are forgotten the next hour, there are still things to praise and acknowledge from these school-wide get-together. And without further ado, let's do a short and blunt review of the most recent rally!
Our party begins with the customary "Presentation of the Colors" with FOHI's JROTC and features a duet by Katherine and Taralyn to deliver the national anthem. I must say, it is very courageous indeed to sing in front of a population of near 3,000 people. But there was something I noticed in the rallies: the singers sing in falsetto to attempt to reach the high note of the "Star-Spangled Banner" and receive two to three rushed applauses from the crowd. But our duet only induced a concluding applause from the crowd. That is something to ponder about…
Moving on, today was the debut of FOHI's new DJs at the turn table, hyping up the whole gym. Thanks to them, we livened up the party with their intriguing mixtape—considering the last rally's attempt to get everyone singing. I think we need a little more research ASB.
In addition to our rookie DJ's, there is a new club on campus: FOHI's very own dance team. Honestly, they were slightly unsynchronized, but considering it's their debut, they did a pretty nice job in satisfying the crowd. And hey, we look forward to what they have to offer at the next rally!
Up next is the semi-annual acknowledgments of this season's sports. We have our beloved wrestling team, 8th reigning champions water polo girls, girls’ and boys’ soccer team, girls’ basketball and this year's league champion, boys’ basketball—whose entrance looked like follow-the-mother-duckling: cute!
Following this was a quick game of humbled quidditch! This activity included a player from all grade levels, with a broom, trying to get a small ball to the "goal"! And the results- a sophomore won! Watch out upperclassmen; I think you got to step up your game…
The follow up was Cindy-Lou'-Who’s, I mean Sindelar's heart-felt speech that all students oh-so look forward to! Oh, and not to mention his seat-gripping entrance! Another predictably smooth entrance again by the man, the myth, and the legend. His enlightened us that FOHI is not only number 1 in the district and exaggerates that we shine not just in the district, but in Southern California! Let's reciprocate our gratitude by keeping up those grades nerds!
And lastly, we ended the day with the traditional and all-inclusive—and generally awkward—moshing! And we cannot forget our exemplary, cult-like hail to our alma-mater!
Final messages: shoutout to Mr. Sindelar for coming out and hosting, as usual, our rallies even with a croaking sore throat! And kudos to the new dance team and all extracurricular teams that were recognized! Let's continue to show our maroon sorcery, learn, and grow with our FOHI family!
