I was going to write about ideas on fun things you could do over break, but I was informed this article would be published after spring break. That’s why, instead, I had the wonderful idea to write about highlights of how FOHI students and staff spent their spring break.
Some people will do their spring cleaning, go on vacation, go out with loved ones, or just chill during their week off. I don’t plan on writing about my own spring break because I’d rather spare you the gory details of my wisdom teeth removal surgery, which will sadly be the main highlight of my own spring break.
However, people at FOHI are having more fun than me, so that will be a much better read- I hope.
Over spring break some people chill with all their free time, others hang out with friends and family, and others go on vacations to Miami and party so hard that the Miami beach hotel had to publicly break up with us over an advertisement, others went on vacation, others cried (happy or sad) tears caused by the UC Admissions.
The French students are going to have their famous trip to France. Check out Cielo Aguirre and Vanessa Santoyo’s article on how that went, it seems really fun, ooh la la.
Aiden Smith is going to Vegas, I asked him what he would do there, and he said he would eat a sandwich. That’s honestly a valid reason to go to Vegas; sandwiches are top tier (I won’t be able to eat the crunchy kind until I fully recover from the horror that was my dental visit).
Natalie Vasquez went on a school trip to some HBCU’s. She read a lot. Natalie also slept a lot (luckily her sleep wasn’t anesthesia-induced like mine was on Friday). She has been enjoying not having homework and being able to use her phone for hours.
Linda Hernandez slept, ate, and practiced- she said that was her entire life over the spring break. She also went to Fresno for a dance festival and for vendors which according to her was a fun experience mostly because she was able to eat the delicious food!
Christopher Bautista spent his break playing some Fortnite and Black Ops 3 Zombies. Moreover, he attended Track and Field Practice and described how himself and his friends felt like dying during practice.
Mayra Padilla played video games, watched shows, lived life, and almost died due to her break homework. (to say I relate to the homework part of her spring break is an understatement, if I had to have my surgery twice or do my break homework again, I would have my surgery seven times).
Sherlyn Gutierrez made me jealous with her spring break. In her words: “My spring break has been good. I’ve finally been able to take a break and relax. However, I did say I was gonna study for my AP classes, but didn’t do that. All I did was homework, but I finally got the rest I was lacking. I also had so much fun playing Overwatch and going to the beach with my friends. I went with my lunch friend group to Laguna Beach where we were celebrated my friends and I birthdays since we all had a birthday in March. We each brought snacks, food, and I brought the cake.”
An anonymous FOHI student also shared their break with me! In their words: “On Monday I went out to eat with my mom and siblings and we went shopping, Tuesday I went to visit my godmother, Wednesday was kinda uneventful, Thursday I went thrifting , and Friday was not eventful either. It was nice to take a break from schoolwork and all that jazz.” (I also went shopping and thrifting!)
And to end this article, I’d like to tell you that I lie; I will share the highlights of my own spring break:
I tried to get my homework out of the way as soon as I could because I hate homework. I got to hang out with my family and other cool people before and after my surgery; the only difference was that I actually got to *go out* before my four wisdom teeth were extracted. I also made it a point to sample various types of solid foods before that privilege was inevitably taken from me due to four teeth getting surgically extracted from the back of my mouth. This break was well needed as a sort of calm before the storm before I return to school and get bombarded with homework and testing. I am glad my recovery took longer than it should, and my spring break was extended by two days. I got to watch cool shows and try out cool recipes.
