Fontana High School has been #1 in the Fontana Unified School District for the last 2 years!
Summit High School is ranked #2, AB Miller #3, Kaiser High School #4, and Jurupa was listed off as #5 in the district.
Compared to the rest of the high schools in FUSD, Fontana has the highest Graduation Rate, which is at 95%, and the highest College Readiness percentage at 43.8%. Which compared to other schools- Jurupa having a 29.1% of College Readiness- a 43.8% of College Readiness is superb!
Fontana High School was able to reach their 95% Graduation Rate and 43.8% College Readiness because of the counselors. Once in their Senior Year, students are closely monitored by their counselors in order to ensure that they are on target to meet the graduation requirements. They also have frequent meetings with the students to complete their college applications.
Here at Fontana High School, counselors -especially Ms. Elias- encourage students to take Advanced Placement classes and to take the AP exam that comes with the class. In order to prepare their students for the exam, teachers like Mrs. Bhatti, Mrs. Sambas, Mrs. Rojas, Mrs. Rodriguez, Ms. Leon, Mr. Costa, and Mr. Alexander take time out of their own Saturday and meet with students and give them additional time to study and take a practice exam. Because of teachers like these, our school has a 51% of students that took at least one AP Exam and a 41% of students who passed one AP Exam.
In addition, teachers go above and beyond to make themselves available before, during lunch, and after school to help out students with any issues that they might have with the curriculum.
The school also provides many other ways for students to get feedback or tutor help.
One way by providing this is by having a Homework Center that is held at the library almost every day in the morning. Mr. Escobar and avid tutors are there in the morning helping students out with any math problems. Upperclassmen are also there to help out their underclassmen with other subjects such as English or Chemistry.
Another way FHS helps students keep their grade up is by having Paper Education. Thanks to the district, who bought the program for schools to use, students are able to have access to a homework assistance program. Paper Education is available all day, every day, including the weekends and holidays, for students to use.
