Let us be honest, all of us have been called a baby steeler; we have all gone through the excitement of attending a new school and trying new things. And of course, some of us were nervous to meet new people and get out of our comfort zone. Well, I’m sure that this new generation was no different.
This last FOHI Friday our future steelers visited our school in hopes of getting to experience what it is like to be a Steeler. Some of the schools that attended was Truman, Sequoia, and Fontana Middle School. Unfortunately, Alder was not able to attend as planned. But either way things went smoothly thanks to our amazing group of students and faculty who had planned the event. These students came from many different programs to welcome the 8th graders to our school- ASB, Sports, Avid, Ren Crew, Clubs, and Electives.
We started this event off with a rally where we had various amazing performances from our clubs as well as a greeting at the door from our kids who helped the event. Our ROTC did the presentation of the Flags while one our students sang our national anthem. Then, our Amazing Marching Band performed “Behind the Smile: A Joker story” With color guard. Afterwards various of our clubs performed. Our Folklorico performed different regions and songs from Mexico. Shortly after our newly instated dance team performed. Then Our cheer team performed various stunts and choreography.
After the rally was finished student were sorted into groups with 2 student leaders to give tour to the 8th graders showing them different electives and classes offered here at our campus. Although it did get a little chaotic with sorting kids into groups and there being many students in a single group, it still went off well thanks to our students being able to organize themselves. The tour went by quickly. Some of our classes allowed us to enter with the 8th graders, giving us a rundown about what that class was all about. For example, CAN class gave an explanation about they do daily as well as our Bio animatronics class.
Finally, the tour had ended with an assembly inside the auditorium conducted by our ASB director and our athletic director about the history of Fontana Highschool as well as important future dates for the 8th graders. Then Our Athletic Director gave a rundown of our sports here a Fohi in the different seasons and when you can sign up. While they listened some of our clubs and sports took the opportunity to hand out flyers about their specific club.
We ended it by dismissing the 8th graders in a Fohi fashion putting an end to an amazing day.
