Give me 10 minutes and I'll Give You the Truth About the Golden Globes

Context: The Golden Globes happened last week! I’ll dip into the celebrities and media that won, the backlash and secret judging from this ceremony and how many celebrities and movies deserved to win.
Many celebrities attended this year-round ceremony to see which creators and what works won a coveted Golden Globe. Many liked hanging out with others, and others did not. Here are some highlights!
When Jo Koy came on stage, he made it awkward for everyone. It was so weird to see him crack the most misogynistic jokes in front of many accomplished and popular women. It was something I wished didn’t happen. It reminded me of last year’s Oscars…
Kylie rejecting Selena asking her for a photo was… something. I mean, they are both celebrities. I do not really have an opinion on that. However, when Selena told Taylor Swift about it, she gasped. Her friends found this just as shocking as she did. And Kylie ended up ditching the Golden Globes. Dramatic, right?
2023 was the year of Oppenheimer and Barbie, and the duality of truly opposite movies. One that can make you ponder your existence after seeing the destruction a single man’s invention resulted in, and the other can remind you about womanhood and how amazing and supportive women are, especially when united. The jokes made about these two movies? Very repetitive. It was funny and original at first when fans made edited images of Oppenheimer and Barbie together, but an actual Barbenheimer movie? Yeah, they are still following through with that, and it is planned to be released this year.
Moving onto the people and media that won! Studio Ghibli’s The Boy and the Heron winning the “Best Motion Picture – Animated” category was deserved. When I watched that movie, I witnessed another one of Miyazaki’s masterpieces for the first time. It truly was phenomenal, and I would gladly rewatch that movie 5 (or more) times.
Emma Stone, winning Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion picture was also very deserved. The movie she starred in also won Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. But if being able to give multiple awards in one category was possible, I would give Margot Robbie a Golden Globe too. Her performance in Barbie was truly exquisite.
I have only recently started hearing about Ayo Edebiri, but after watching Bottoms, I understand now how adored she is and why. She is also an amazing actor, and her winning "Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series” was exciting. I would also give Quinta Brunson an award in that category too. It is such a shame they both did not win.
Seeing The Bear win “Best Television Series” over Abbott Elementary was such a surprise to me! Abbott holds a special place in my heart, and it kind of hurts to see it not win in that category. But I really need to start watching The Bear. I have heard it was funny and remarkable.
Billie Eilish winning “Best Original Song” was deserved as well. Hearing that song while watching the montage in Barbie broke me. It was so beautiful to see and be reminded of how connected women are, how much they care about others and themselves, and how kindness can mean a lot, even if it is a little bit.
What did you think of this year’s iconic pop culture moments?
