In an Interview with Leilani Ortiz for the senior special we take peek in what it is to run Ren Crew. Ren Crew has only been part of our campus for two years now and they have added a lot to our campus by making our students, teachers, and staff feel appreciated for their hard work. In this interview we take a sneak peek on how it is run from this year’s president Leilani Ortiz! As well as some last-minute messages to the underclassmen.
Cielo Aguirre: What got you interested in Ren Crew?
Leilani Ortiz: What got me interested was my English teacher and since I was not in a sport it made me feel like I wasn’t doing anything with my life, so I really wanted to change and do something for the school.
CA: Being more involved with the school?
LO: Yes, being involved and having something to do and not just going home and being bored every day.
CA: When did you join Ren Crew?
LO: I joined my junior year because this is the second year it has been on campus.
CA: What motivated you to be involved with Ren Crew?
Mainly the teachers because Ren Crew does focus on academics and staff faculty appreciation and beautifying the school, and it is mainly the staff. I love working with the teachers, talking with staff members, and just communicating with them because they always have a story to tell you and they are the sweetest. They deserve appreciation
CA: What teacher motivated you, is there a specific teacher that motivated you because I know you have mentioned one?
LO: So far, she is not on campus, bit it was Miss. Herrada. She was my English teacher and I had her for three years straight. She pushed me because she said I would do well in Renaissance, and it was my first leadership class.
CA: If you were to tell her something today if she were here, what would you tell her?
LO: I would genuinely thank her because I love the change and impact I’ve had in the school for the past few years
CA: What is one of your favorite memories in Ren Crew that you had with your friends?
LO: There are so many good memories that I have had from last year’s seniors and getting all these members, but my favorite memory would have to be the homecoming float that we prepared last year. It was the first time we all bonded for the first year because we were stuck together.
CA: Would you say that it made your High School Career more enjoyable?
LO: It definitely did. I do not know what I would have done without Ren. I would’ve definitely been bored with my life not knowing what do. It helped with my mental health a lot by keeping me busy. It genuinely helped by not being stuck at home not doing anything.
CA: What was one of the most challenging obstacles you had to face while in the position of the President?
LO: Having to be straight up because I can be super nice at tines and they kind of take advantage of that and you kind of have to be strict, put your foot down. Sometimes you genuinely do not want to. It is hard because they are just kids too. That is the most challenging obstacle because they are my friends too.
CA: What is one piece of advice you would want to give to the underclassmen?
LO: Do not lose motivation when it comes to your senior year. As much as it can be super hard and stressful. Just keep pushing yourself to the end because it will all be worth it.
CA: What do you want to do after High School?
LO: I will take a Gap year to figure out what I want and to figure out the next chapter in my life.
