Psychology is the study of the mind and behavior; many people do research for psychology, and they educate themselves on the different topics in psychology. Luckily, Fontana High School offers regular Psychology, AP psychology, and even the Psi Alpha Psychology Club. Psi Alpha Psychology Club is advised by Mr. Garate in A-107, and the meetings are every other Monday.
Board Members: President – Zuri Barrientos, Vice President – Sherlyn Gutierrez, Treasurer – Jesus Bautista, Event Planner – Nicole Flores, Designer – Medardo Saravia, Secretary – Ashley Villarreal, Social Media Manager(s) – Mayra Padilla & Felicia Ibarra
The meetings of the Psi Alpha Psychology Club usually consist of different activities. In some cases, there will be group activities where people can socialize with one another and perhaps make new friends. It is important to socialize with others because it can build character and bring different experiences and perspectives to one’s life. The more people socialize with one another, the more comfortable students will be to share their opinions and collaborate. In Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, a crucial factor before being able to reach self-actualization is love and belonging, and it is necessary to socialize with people to build deep rooted friendships and bring family closer together.
Joining the Psi Alpha Psychology Club may be helpful to those who want to have a deeper understanding of the subject because the club hosts some events where we learn about more topics in Psychology. In addition, another event where students collaborate with one another would be the AP Psychology exam review, where students discuss topics in psychology and understand it on a deeper level. Students of Psychology may find this event beneficial because it allows them to refresh their minds on topics they have previously learned. Although you may be intimidated to join the club since there is a good handful of students in psychology, do not worry, the learning experience is shared with every student in the club, and some students may teach their fellow scholars about the topics in Psychology. No one is left out in the club because students make sure everyone is included by asking for opinions or questions.
People with a passion or interest in Psychology may find Psi Alpha Psychology Club beneficial when it comes to being more knowledgeable. Other students may find the psychology club to be fun because they can hang out with their friends and have deep discussions in the meetings. I highly encourage you to join the club, especially if you are taking an interest in majoring or taking psychology as a class; the subject is extremely interactive and interesting.
