The school year is officially ending, and all students are preparing to begin their summer vacation, relaxing near a refreshing pool. Well, all except for our fellow Senior graduates! They must prepare for their next steps for the rest of their life. How exciting!
Now, there is a lot of stress that comes with your Senior year, but there is also numerous amounts of excitement and adventures. One aspect of entering your Senior year is figuring out your Senior Quote!
All Seniors have already contemplated and decided on their Senior Quote when the school year started, some regretting their choices and some not quite remembering what they decided on. However, for those who do recall their quote and their reasoning behind it have allowed their explanations to be listed here today!
Let us learn about our Seniors’ quotes and optimistically hope to help the future graduating classes to follow.
Let us begin with the amazing Azzy Vazquez. They are part of our hard-working ASB group and have helped coordinate multiple events, including most of the Senior activities! Their Senior Quote is a beautiful song by Adele named Someone Like You, which spoke emotionally to Azzy. They were truly moved by the masterpiece of a song that they recall relating to the ending of their final year of High School, even giving Azzy the acknowledgement that although it is quite sad, there always remains hope. Their quote was “Regrets and Mistakes, they’re Memories made.”
Now, let us move onto our incredibly funny Drum Major, Ana Hernandez. She is participating in our school band’s performance for the Fontana Days Parade and will be showing her skilled conducting off to all of Fontana to see! She is a huge fan of the band Coldplay and decided to choose one of their songs for her quote. She decided on a song that she described as cute, and she picked the lyrics she viewed as the most heartwarming; she chose “Look at the stars, look how they shine for you and everything you do.”
Next up is the wonderful Briana Medrano! She has been continuously working on her classes and has done an amazing job at surviving this school year along with all of us. Along with being a scholar, she has been having fun doing all the Senior Activities this year, including deciding on her quote. Briana chose a song that she could listen to for multiple hours on repeat, one that has greatly impacted her life. Her quote was “ama a quien tu quieres porque un dia mueres” (Translation: Love who you want because one day you’ll die) a song by Tornillo called Un Dia Todo Se Termina.
Moving down the list of Senior Steelers who have demonstrated their hard work in all their class and are setting milestones for future Steeler generations, we have an anonymous source! They went an analytical route with their quote and picked a poem to be remembered by. They mentioned that they decided on the poem because they found it adorable and fell in love with the words that brought meaning to the poem. Their senior quote is displayed as “Be strong in body. Unfettered by desire. Not enticed to anger. Cultivate a quiet joy.” which is a beautiful portion of Kenji Miyazawa’s poem Be not Defeated by the Rain.
Following our anonymous source, we have Fontana High School’s Speech and Debate President, Hailey Garcia Costilla. They have attended many competitions throughout the year and has excelled in organizing absolutely everything for the club, leading them all through the competitions. Hailey is very passionate about her debates, but among their other interests they also adore fluffy and adorable cats! In fact, they love them so much, they chose quite a perfect Senior Quote to show their excitement. Their Senior Quote is “Oh my gatos”, extremely creative!
Now we have the mastermind of the violin herself, Abigail Carreno! She has been working very hard to perfect the violin, flawlessly playing for everyone to hear. She is not just tremendously talented, she is also academically efficient, representing the balance between passion and hard work. As for her Senior Quote, Abigail went into an emotional decision and chose a quote from one of her childhood favorite films! This film has continued to have a special place in her life, making her smile and laugh every time she rewatched it. Abigail quotes the movie The Emperors New Groove in the lines “Oh, right.’ The poison-the poison for Kuzco. The poison chosen specially to kill Kuzco. Kuzco’s poison. That poison?” -Kronk.
Next up we have Juliet Lopez, who, judging by their quote, is a very open-minded person and wishes to express herself to those who will listen. Juliet chose a quote that they would be able to look back to and use the advice in all points of their life. The reasoning for choosing this quote is because they wanted to share the words that have always helped them, wanting to hopefully help any future Senior Steelers in need of encouragement. They picked “Change your thoughts, and you’ll change your world” truly inspirational!
Next, we have another anonymous source with a unique quote for us to share. They are a fellow Steeler that seems to enjoy their music lyrics and the experiences belonging to them. They chose their quote by relating to their belief in reliving their mistakes in a healthier atmosphere with their loved ones. They chose lyrics from a song by $uicideboy$ called Runnin’ Thru the 7th with My Woadies. They quoted “Déjà vu. I’ve been through it with you.” reminding us to appreciate the people around us that stick around to support our mistakes rather than excusing themselves from the task.
Moving onto a humorous quote with an interesting backstory, we have Ariel! They chose to go towards a more personal and lighthearted approach with their quote, involving some laughable memories for them. They hysterically decided on “They rejected my application of existence to be the Little Mermaid.” They picked this as their Senior Quote because they have always been compared to Ariel from The Little Mermaid due to having the same name. Glad that they chose a comedic twist!
Following is Giselle Sanchez, who has been awaiting graduation eagerly, along with the rest of the Senior. Although she is excited to be free of school, she has also been excited for all our Senior activities; prom, homecoming, grad night, and many events to come. Giselle is an interesting person, so of course her Senior Quote had to be just as interesting! She decided on her quote because she identified with the meaning behind it and found it unique. Her Senior quote was “If no one from the future comes to stop you from doing it then, how bad of a decision could it really be.”
Finally, we have another member of Fontana High School’s ASB team - Mario Salvador! He is always ready to help plan school events and make a memorable time for every Steeler involved. Fun fact about Mario; he has always loved the Spider-Man movies growing up and continues to enjoy the movies. He rewatches them from time to time, and during one of his run-throughs, he recalls a direct quote from Spider-Man 2. He quoted “Sometimes, in order to do what is right, we have to be steady and give up the things we want the most. Even our dreams.” because he relates to the experience of letting things go; relationships, friend, opportunities, etc. He believes that learning to live with your choices can help develop someone and believes that being a person you can be proud of is extremely valuable and beneficial while readying to enter a new chapter.
That concludes our list of Senior Quotes and the meaning behind their journey into being printed onto the yearbook pages. I encourage everyone to take time and look through some Senior Quote, so you can get some inspiration for your own quote as there are some great quotes that can surely inspire you!
I would also like to give a special thank you to all Senior that submitted their quotes for me to share!
