The Steeler Chronicle, the school newspaper, is a safe space where creative minds can express their ideas and write them into an article. The club just started back up semester 1 of 2023 after about 49 years of not being active. Mrs. Bhatti- the club Advisor; Cielo Aguirre—the club President, and Ashley Diaz—the Vice President of the club—have worked together and started the club back up, so that students can go back to writing down their opinions and informing the students at Fontana High School.
The Steeler Chronicle club helps keep students informed about the events at school, opinions people may have, or issues that take place on campus. The club gives the students a voice to express how they view certain ideas or events at school. Ashley Diaz, the Vice President, states “the Chronicle is here to provide [students] with entertainment and increase their awareness of the community events and issues.” Let us be honest, many students at Fontana High School do not know about most events, issues, resources, or clubs at school. The Steeler Chronicle gives students the perfect opportunity to learn more about the things happening around the school.
Cielo Aguirre, the President, mentioned, “the Steeler Chronicle is a good way to strengthen our bond as a Steeler family by getting together and sharing our ideas.” Cielo does make a good point- being in the club helps people socialize and meet new types of people with different ideas to share. Meeting new types of people will not only help a person’s social life, but it can also help the person explore new ideas that they did not even think of.
According to Ashley, club members also can choose “how their writing style will be and how they get to present their information.” Freedom of writing is extremely important within the club. It helps one explore different writing styles and lets them pick and choose their style and what they want to write about; it is all about freedom of speech.
