Writing for Fun: Creative Writing Club
Who is willing to write for fun? Well that must be creative writing club! Read all about them and what their club is about.
Alma Aranda, Staff Writer
Creative Writing Club (meeting in Q101/Q102) is a great community for students on campus to support and encourage others who share our love for writing poems, short stories, plays, music, comics, or anything creative and nerdy.
Our advisor is Mrs. Sambas, English 10 Honors and AP Literature teacher.
Our Board members include:
President: Jazmine Morales Diego
Vice President: Mario Salazar
Secretaries: Alma Aranda & Vanessa Lujano
Treasurer: Nico Carrillo.
In a usual meeting, our President starts off with an activity or writing exercise and asks us to share. Then we either have discussions or just write whatever our creativity drives us to write. Some people use this time to work on their own personal writing projects or hang, chill, and brainstorm writing ideas with other writers.
When we are writing, we are not limited by any strict rules that’ll discourage us or bring us down on what we may feel like writing; we express ourselves individually, and we are encouraged by our peers to do so. For example, one meeting we sat under a tree to share and write about our thoughts and feelings—releasing our emotions and complexities in a way that is unique and refreshing to our minds. Sometimes, we also have snacks so that we don’t write on empty stomachs—which is a great way to fuel our minds.
You can express your feelings through poetry (which was our popular genre last year because we were all tortured poets). We have a respectable audience and we are also currently working on creating contests where students can compete to express their creativity beyond their limits.
Here is one sample from one of our wonderful club secretaries:
“One
One moment
One person
One friend
One stranger
One smile
One compliment
One conversation
One laugh
One hug
One kiss
One gift
One heart
One is not a complex number, maybe that’s what makes it so special.
For one of anything can save everything.“
– Vanessa Lujano
We also like to collaborate with other clubs in ways that showcase our writings through the Newspaper articles and creating comics with the Creative Minds Art Club!
